Our Mission

Nurturing Leaders of Tomorrow

MDQ Academy eagles aspire to lead by inculcating the noblest of virtues. We strive to prepare today's students for tomorrow's challenges through an enhanced curriculum and rigorous assessments which nurture holistic development. Our love for the Creator compels us to serve as dynamic American Muslim global citizens.

We believe that producing strong leaders with high morals and character is the root system of a successful community for all of humanity. Our approach combines devotion to Islamic principles with preparation for global citizenship in American society.

Our Journey

Over two decades of serving the Muslim community on Long Island.

2003

A Humble Beginning

MDQ Academy opens with just five students at Masjid Darul Quran in Bay Shore — Suffolk County's first Islamic school.

2010s

Growing Roots

Enrollment expands to two houses and a trailer beside the masjid as families across Long Island seek quality Islamic education.

2020s

Pre-K Through Grade 12

MDQ grows into a full Pre-K–12 school — and becomes the only Islamic high school in Suffolk County, with AP courses and Regents preparation.

Today

400+ Students Strong

Now the largest Islamic school in Suffolk County, serving families from our campus at 40 Kings Park Road in Commack.

A Campus Built for Growth

Today, over 400 students thrive at our campus at 40 Kings Park Road in Commack — the first Islamic school in Suffolk County, and the only Islamic high school in the county today, with a curriculum aligned to the Common Core.

Our Islamic environment helps children develop a healthy and authentic Muslim identity. Islamic values are practiced and learned through experience and example, not just instruction.

Amna Baig

Dean of Academic Affairs

Member of the MDQ family since 2009

Over 17 years in education, with a bachelor's in Elementary Education and a master's in Curriculum and Instruction. Certified K–9 in Illinois and grades 1–6 in New York, she has taught seven of her nine classroom years at MDQ Academy, served as Academic Advisor for an online Islamic school and Curriculum Coordinator at Hamza Academy, and is pursuing her NYS School Building Leadership certificate. She is also a proud parent of MDQ Academy graduates.

Yasmin Elnakib

Dean of Administrative Affairs

Member of the MDQ family since 2016

A Stony Brook University graduate in Sociology and International Studies with an MBA in Management, and an NYU master's in School Counseling. A NYS-certified school counselor, she specializes in guiding students through the college application process and helping Muslim American students develop a strong sense of identity, confidence, and pride.

Tayyib Zaman

Dean of Student Affairs

Member of the MDQ family since 2013

A dedicated educator with over 20 years of teaching experience in Qur'ān, Tajwīd, and Islamic Studies. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Islamic Studies and is pursuing master's degrees in Islamic Studies and Educational Leadership. He has taught Qur'ān and Tajwīd since 2002, earned Ijāzah in all ten Qirā'āt, has directed the Islamic Studies, Qur'ān, and Arabic department since 2016, and leads the After-School Qur'ān Program and the Full-Time Ḥifẓ Program. He also serves as Youth Director at Masjid Darul Qur'ān.
